Our Celtic ancestors often saw spirit dolls as an object with significant spiritual importance & power. Their dolls were imbued with spiritual energy and used for various purposes, such as healing, protection, and divination, just as mine are today.
Spirit dolls are handmade using traditional techniques and are believed to contain the essence of a particular deity, ancestor, or spirit. They may be crafted from various materials, such as clay, cloth, wood, or bone, and may be adorned with symbols, feathers, beads, or other objects that are believed to enhance their power.
In some traditions, spirit dolls are used in healing rituals, where they are believed to help channel healing energy to the recipient. They may also be used in divination, where they are consulted for guidance or insight.
Spirit dolls are often considered to be living entities, with their own spirit or essence. As such, they are treated with great respect and care. Offerings may be made to them, such as incense, flowers, or food.
Overall, the use of spirit dolls is a wonderfully unique and varied practice within spiritual belief systems, with different traditions and cultures having their own unique approaches and rituals.
After a lifetime of magical adventures & travelling the world, I settled my home and my heart in to the sacred wild lands of Cornwall, a true spiritual home for me and my son.
After happening across sacred textiles and Spirit Dolls it felt as if my DNA had been turned on and awoken to the remembering of this ancient craft. After doing some research I discovered that my family can be traced back to the Normans, and that my family were actually wool merchants and doll makers for generations! This sacred magic literally runs in my blood.
The feel of wool in my hands is so familiar and so known, so much so that when I sat behind a spindle for the first time I had a vision that I had worked with sacred textiles in one way or another across most, if not all, of my past lives.
Since discovering all of this, I have done courses on Spirit Dolls & sacred textiles with Alison at The Healing Tree Centre and Sacred Familiar. The rest has been self-taught through my inner-knowing, intuition and my connection to the Gods & Goddesses.
